AFP Announces Top Giving and Volunteering Awards

The Association of Fundraising Professionals has announced the recipients of its 2015 National Philanthropy Day Honors, including a powerhouse philanthropic couple from Virginia Beach, Va., a world-famous beverage corporation headquartered in Atlanta, Ga., and a youth group from Pratt, Kan.  The honorees will be recognized formally in November in New York City as part of AFP’s global celebration of National Philanthropy Day.

The National Philanthropy Day Honors recognize individuals and organizations for their tireless work and dedication to philanthropy that has significantly improved the quality of life for people in their communities and around the world.

AFP’s second annual National Philanthropy Day Honors Event will take place on Nov. 12, 2015, at the 92nd Street Y, a famous community and cultural center, in New York from 6:30 – 9:00 p.m. This year’s honorees include:

“Philanthropy is a partnership between charities and fundraisers on one hand, and individuals and organizations who want to get involved and make a difference,” said Andrew Watt, FInstF, president and CEO of AFP. “Philanthropy, and the incredible changes it brings to the world, cannot happen without donors, volunteers, foundations, corporations, fundraisers and others. It is only fitting that we honor them, not only for their tremendous giving and volunteering, but for the example they set for others.”

AFP’s National Philanthropy Day Honors have highlighted outstanding individuals and organizations in the philanthropic world since 1980. Just a few of the past recipients include H. Ross Perot, Dorothy and J.B. Fuqua, James Michener, Jeff Skoll, Hallmark Cards, Inc., Bank of America, Johnson & Johnson, the Kresge Foundation and the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation.

National Philanthropy Day is the day set aside to recognize the impact that philanthropy—and those involved in the philanthropic process—have made to the world. President Ronald Reagan signed a proclamation creating the day in 1986, and the Canadian government made National Philanthropy Day a permanent day of recognition in 2012.
