The Financial Edge WebPortal Takes Accounting Processes Online

Blackbaud, Inc. (Nasdaq: BLKB), announced the availability of WebPortal™ for The Financial Edge™, which provides nonprofits an online window into spending and removes time and resource-consuming, manual, paper-based processes by automatically ensuring their organizations’ spending policies are applied and enforced.

“With WebPortal, nonprofits can simplify and automate processes that are often accomplished through inefficient manual processes,” said Andrew Payne, Blackbaud’s product line manager for The Financial Edge. “The automated approval logic places the burden of spending validation, like budget checking and allowable expenditures, on the system, affording approvers the ability to review and process requests with confidence.”

The Financial Edge is an accounting application designed to address the specific accounting, analytical and financial reporting needs of nonprofit organizations. It also provides the means to help manage fiscal and fiduciary responsibility, enabling nonprofits to be more accountable to their constituents. The new WebPortal is comprised of WebPurchasing™ and WebInvoicing™, which are available together or separately through The Financial Edge.

WebPurchasing brings the requisition and approval process online, giving users and reviewers a central place to request items and approve purchases. With remote access, users can easily create requisitions, get approval, and submit a purchase order. “We chose WebPurchasing because it will help make our purchasing processes more efficient,” said Roz White, purchasing agent at the Pueblo City County Health Department. “Since all approvals automatically go through The Financial Edge, the amount of time routing paper work will be reduced as well as the amount of paper we use.”

With WebInvoicing, users can create and manage invoice requests, check requests and expense reports via the web. “WebInvoicing is a great tool that has enhanced our accounts payable procedures by enabling us to significantly reduce our paper consumption,” said Kim Elliott, director of accounting at University of South Carolina Foundations. “With the ability to instantly access invoice documentation and because it integrates with the Financial Edge, we’ve been able to save time too.”
