Girl Scouts of the USA Chooses Sage MIP Fund Accounting

Sage North America announced today that Girl Scouts of the USA (GSUSA), the world's preeminent organization dedicated solely to girls and their leadership development, is automating and streamlining nonprofit financial management for its 100+ councils on a remotely hosted Sage MIP Fund Accounting system. Sage helps more than 32,000 unique not-for-profit organizations in the U.S. and Canada increase efficiency and more easily manage their operations through the use of technology.

Several years ago, GSUSA began implementing an overall enterprise-wide strategy to provide its 100+ councils with a standard platform of applications to help them manage their businesses more effectively and efficiently, communicate with each other, and share best practices. The organization turned to Sage for help in offering its councils a standard chart of accounts and general ledger (GL) structure, defined accounting segments to be used with transactions, and more consistency of financial reporting.

"For our councils, standardizing on hosted versions of business applications, like Sage MIP Fund Accounting, means flexibility and security, shared costs, and no maintenance," said Margie Wang, vice president of finance and technology for Girl Scouts. "Council staff members are able to redirect their energies toward girl- and customer-facing activities, and spend less time on back-office duties."

So far, nearly 30 Girl Scout councils and the national office are up and running on the hosted Sage MIP Fund Accounting model. "By October 1, we'll have 40," said Wang, "and we expect that number to continue to grow a lot over the next few years."

Even Girl Scout councils that were previously using an on-premise version of Sage MIP Fund Accounting are choosing to migrate to the hosted environment. "These councils are realizing cost savings in addition to no longer needing to maintain the system on their own," added Wang. "They're also getting further functionality at no added cost."

Each Girl Scout council gets its own Sage MIP Fund Accounting database pre-loaded with the standard chart of accounts. For training, the council staff either goes to the Sage training facility nearest to them, or a Sage trainer comes to their office.

"Like the Girl Scouts, nonprofit and government organizations are wanting to access their mission-critical applications from anywhere at any time, as well as increase transparency, reduce costs, and refocus IT resources on strategic initiatives," said Krista Endsley, SVP and general manager for Nonprofit Solutions at Sage. "We're thrilled to welcome GSUSA to the Sage family, and to be a trusted partner in their financial management and application hosting needs."

Available as licensed software and in a fully managed hosted environment, Sage MIP Fund Accounting is Sage North America's nonprofit accounting software for government and nonprofit financial management. First introduced in 1982, the product was developed specifically for the unique accounting and reporting challenges faced by nonprofit and government organizations, and features a unique modular architecture. Sage MIP Fund Accounting has been honored with numerous industry awards, including four consecutive Campbell Awards from Campbell Rinker for exceptional ratings in the Nonprofit Accounting Software Survey, a nationwide survey of accounting software users.
