Email campaigns still have their place in your nonprofit fundraising toolkit. The 11th annual M + R Benchmarks study found that in 2016 email accounted for 26 percent of nonprofits online revenue. However overall email open rates declined by 7 percent, which means that nonprofits have to work harder to create enticing email subject lines that will get donors/potential donors to click through.
If your nonprofit doesn’t have a software package that includes an integrated email marketing tool, there are several services available that will help your organization create and send your email marketing campaigns.
MailChimp is one such service. It is a web based application that is easy to use and it offers a wide range of email marketing options. From templates and target marketing to robust reports. MailChimp offers tiered pricing and a discount to nonprofit organizations.
Another service is Drip. What makes Drip unique is it doesn’t offer drag and drop templates, not that it doesn’t offer templates--it is just that they are in HTML plain text. Drip pricing is tiered based on the number of emails your organization will send.
Benchmark Email has a drag and drop editor, responsive templates and the ability to create signup forms. It is also subscription based, but does offer a free tier with basic email marketing tools, and you can upgrade at any time.
