Independent Sector Names Victor Reinoso New Chief Operating Officer

Independent Sector (IS), the nation’s only membership organization bringing together a diverse set of nonprofits, foundations, and corporations to advance the common good, announced today that it has selected Victor Reinoso, business leader, social and tech entrepreneur, and former Washington, DC Deputy Mayor under Mayor Adrian Fenty as Independent Sector’s new Chief Operating Officer (COO).


Reinoso joins the organization today and brings with him nearly three decades of leadership experience across the social, business, government, and nonprofit sectors. He will support IS’s new vision, which at its core, will use technology to accelerate IS’s ability to engage members in a highly collaborative way to leverage the collective force of members impact on contribution to the common good  and partners in the sector’s policy work.

“I am pleased to welcome Victor to Independent Sector and look forward to working closely with him to shine a bright light on the powerful example set by our members, the entire charitable sector, and communities across the country,” said Dan Cardinali, President and CEO of Independent Sector. “I have long admired Victor’s career in business, government and the nonprofit sector, but I have most admired his value-driven and deeply strategic commitment to impact. Victor’s strategic and operational leadership, as well his management expertise, will help us harness the innovations, skills, and successes of the charitable sector for the common good.”

Reinoso has helped found and support numerous nonprofit projects, with a particular focus on education. From 2007 to 2011, he oversaw DC’s education agencies and a more than $1 billion operating budget.  He is currently the founder of Hopscotch Ventures, which invests in early-stage education technology companies, and is a senior advisor at Bellwether Education Partners.

An Eagle Scout and a member of the Aspen Global Leaders Network, he holds a bachelor's degree in International Relations from Georgetown University and an MBA from the MIT Sloan School of Management.
