Microsoft's Awards Teachers Who Creatively Use Technology

Twenty-nine teachers from 14 states have been selected as first-round finalists to showcase the unique ways they are using technology in and beyond their classrooms at the 2011 U.S. Innovative Education Forum (IEF), presented by Microsoft Partners in Learning. The U.S. IEF is a showcase of talented educators from around the country, and Microsoft Corp. will honor these teachers for creatively and effectively using technology in their curriculum to increase student engagement and success. Blackbaud Index Indicates Rise in Overall Giving but Decline from Online

New grant aimed at helping at-risk students

Mobile Beacon (www.mobilebeacon.org), a leading provider of low-cost 4G mobile broadband service exclusively to the education and nonprofit sectors, is today announcing a new grant program that donates laptops, modems, and Internet service. Qualified educational entities in select areas of the country will be eligible to receive up to 25 laptops and modems for disadvantaged or at-risk students so they can continue their studies remotely. New Report Finds Growth in Online Fundraising

A comprehensive new analysis of nonprofit online fundraising and advocacy out today found that online fundraising showed steady growth for participating groups in 2010 despite the current economic climate. Most groups saw a 10% increase in dollars raised online from 2009 to 2010, the same percentage increase those groups saw from 2008 to 2009, but slower than those nonprofits were seeing from 2006 to 2008, prior to the recession.
